A MAN befriended a vulnerable woman and then beat and raped her in a park.
Craig Line has been jailed for 10 years for the brutal attack in Goffs Park, Crawley, on February 27 last year.
The 22-year-old befriended the 27-year-old and went to Asda in Peglar Way before going to the park at 1.30am, a trial at Brighton Crown Court heard.
The attack took place after he got angry when he used her phone to prepare a line of cocaine but she accidentally knocked the drug on the floor. He punched her in the face then forced her to the ground and raped her. She escaped but he chased her along Springfield Road and raped her again.
Line, of South Holmes Road, Horsham, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one of assault after a five-day trial and was put on the sex offences register for life. He was cleared of an attempted rape charge.
Detective constable John Hord said: “The victim showed great courage and composure throughout the investigation and in giving her evidence at court.
“Line showed no remorse for his actions and has left the victim with psychological scars. The 10-year prison sentence sends a strong message that violent and sexually motivated crimes will always be dealt with robustly and offenders can expect to feel the full weight of the criminal justice system.”
